College Principal

MacKillop Catholic College is a co-educational Years 7-12 Catholic secondary school located in Mornington on Hobart’s Eastern Shore.

Founded in 1994, we support and further the learning outcomes of students from our local and the extended communities of Hobart by providing high-quality Catholic education in the tradition of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice.

As expressed in the College’s Vision statement, MacKillop Catholic College is a Christ-centred learning community that fosters excellence, compassion and service.

As a learning community, we are committed to the pursuit and actioning of excellence in all that we do. We engage in outreach activities locally and abroad to help develop students who are caring, ethical and committed to the service of others. It is our belief that MacKillop students will develop into confident, discerning and compassionate young people ready to contribute to their family, workplace, communities and the wider world.

We are focused on quality teaching and personalised learning which is expressed through our learning principles:

Learning should be aspirational

Learning should be physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual

Learning should be demanding

Learning should be achievable

Learning should be accessible

Learning should be contextual

Learning should be collaborative

Learning should be accountable

Learning should be diverse.

We acknowledge our families as the first and primary educators of their children and want to work constructively with them to see each individual student flourish. In 2020, and after an extended period of discernment, wide consultation and collaborative effort, Catholic Education Tasmania (CET) invited, MacKillop Catholic College to embark on an exciting and ambitious new project: to progressively extend our educational offering through the provision of Years 11 and 12 from the commencement of 2023. On 21 July 2022, the Non-government Schools Registration Board approved the College's application for change in education type to provide Years 11 and 12 from 2023.

We are fortunate to have professional, innovative staff who are committed to providing a high standard of learning and teaching and dedicated pastoral care. Numerous newly built and renovated College buildings provide us with outstanding, modern facilities and spacious grounds. These facilities will be expanded upon through an extensive building program in the coming specifically designed to meet the diverse learning needs of today’s senior secondary students. This is truly an exciting time to be a part of our learning community!

We welcome you and encourage you to take time to explore and discover more about us.
