Music

MacKillop Catholic College is well known for its extensive and highly successful co-curricular music program.

Students are encouraged to become involved in the vibrant musical life of the College by participating in one or more of our concert bands, choirs, or string ensembles. Throughout these groups perform in Ember, Fusion, College events, Open Day and Masses.

In addition, the College performs for special events during the year including the Tasmanian Bands League and Music Tours.

Specialist Teachers

The College offers an opportunity to work with specialist tutors who continue to work in professional bands and orchestras.

Banding Together

Banding Together is a wind band program for Grade 6 students attending Corpus Christi Catholic School, John Paul II Catholic School, St Cuthbert’s Catholic School and St John's Catholic School, who would like to learn a musical instrument and play in an ensemble with other young people from Hobart’s Eastern Shore with the same interest in music and performance.

Hosted by MacKillop Catholic College, students in the program will have access to an instrument of their own for the duration of their time in the program and will receive tutoring from one of MacKillop Catholic College’s instrumental specialists. No music experience is necessary, and students will learn the fundamentals of playing and taking care of their instrument, reading music and playing in ensemble.

Banding Together is an initiative of MacKillop Catholic College’s Program Leader of Music and is supported by the Principals of the Catholic schools in Hobart’s
Eastern Shore. While the program is limited to a maximum 30 participants due to the supply of instruments, consideration will be given to additional students if a participant can provide their own musical instrument.
